This was a great read, you can really tell how much research and thought went into it. The push and pull you describe between building relevance at the continental (or confederation) level while not leaving domestic leagues behind, really comes through. From a U.S. perspective, this was actually the first AFCON where I noticed a more intentional effort around promotion and highlights, which felt like progress. That said, the matches were still difficult to access here unless you already had beIN, so there’s clearly more room to grow on the distribution side. Lastly, I hope there is a way the domestic leagues in Africa can get stronger from this, which in turn will help the African player.

Thanks for the kind words! - I completely agree on the distribution front. While domestic reach is vital, the global interest in this AFCON proves there is a massive untapped market. Interestingly, my experience watching it on YouTube was down to the specific broadcaster (Claro TV) rather than a CAF-led initiative.

To bridge that gap, a global partnership with a major streaming platform seems like the logical next step for CAF.

Regarding the domestic leagues, the landscape is definitely heterogeneous and complex. I’d love to see them take a page out of the K-League or A-League playbook, leveraging YouTube for accessibility while focusing on centralized league development. It's a long road, but the potential is clearly there.
