Introducing Off-Ball Logic
Why the most important moves in sports happen exactly where no one is looking.
In sports, we are trained to follow the ball.
We watch the striker’s finish, the quarterback’s deep ball, or the driver’s overtake. It’s natural, since the ball is where the drama is. And we humans love drama.
But as any elite coach or seasoned executive will tell you, the game isn’t won (or defined) where the ball is. It’s all about beyond the field, through the spaces created elsewhere.
It’s won off-ball.
Welcome to Off-Ball Logic.
The View from the Technical Area
Let me introduce myself first. My name is Carla and I’ve spent the last several years working at the intersection of Product Marketing and global SaaS platforms. My day job involves deconstructing complex systems, building narrative and storytelling, finding product-market fit, and building go-to-market strategies for high-growth tech.
But my lifelong obsession has been the machinery of sports.
Living in Argentina, a country where sports —and being passionate about it— isn’t just a pastime, but a primary cultural export, I’ve realized there is a massive gap in how we talk about the industry. Most media focuses on the score (the result). Very few focus on the system (the business and marketing behind it).
What is “Off-Ball Logic”?
This isn’t a news site. I won’t be telling you who won last night or who got traded this morning. Instead, we are going to look at the “logic” that drives the global sports empire.
We are going to treat sports as the ultimate high-stakes product. We will explore:
The SaaS-ification of Fandom: Why leagues are ditching cable for subscription ecosystems (and who’s winning).
The Talent ROI: Why the Argentinian football factory is the world’s most efficient supply chain.
The Blueprint of Expansion: How niche sports like Padel or F1 “break” new markets through narrative-led marketing.
Why English? Why Now?
The business of sports is a global language, and English is its primary dialect. Whether you are a CMO in New York, an agent in London, or a club exec in Buenos Aires, the challenges are the same: How do we capture attention in a fragmented world?
I am launching Off-Ball Logic to provide a fresh, visionary perspective on these questions. I want to bridge the gap between the raw passion of sports culture and the clinical strategy of global business.
What to Expect
Moving forward, you can expect a bi-weekly deep-dive here on Substack every Wednesday, followed by a visual breakdown on our YouTube channel (to be released soon; more in the About section).
If you are a sports professional, a marketing strategist, or just a “smart fan” who wants to see the blueprint behind the game, I’m glad you’re here.
The ball is in play. But we’re going to be looking at everything else.
Let’s get to work.
